The course is delivered over 4 x half day workshops via Zoom, followed by 3 assignments.
Through attending this course, you will be able to understand:
The role of an assessor and others involved in the assessment process
How to plan assessment
Different assessment methods and making assessment decisions
How to involve learners and others in the assessment process
Legal and regulatory requirements relating to assessment
If you have learners to assess in the workplace or classroom environment, you can also complete practical units, which will enable you to:
Plan assessment using a range of methods
Carry out assessment using a range of methods
Make assessment decisions and provide feedback to learners
Attend a standardisation meeting
Reflect on and improve your own practice through professional development
To do this, you will gather evidence of working with 2 learners. You will meet monthly with your Learning Advisor, who will also observe you carrying out assessment practice. This can be done online.
This course can be completed bilingually (workshops are in English, assignments and mentoring can be done in Welsh)
There are 4 pathways on the assessor course, the one that is most suitable for you depends on if you currently assess, what, who and where you assess.
These are:
Level 3 Award in Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment - if you don't currently have learners
Level 3 Award in Assessing Competence in the Work Environment - if you assess learners' competence in the workplace against qualification or industry standards
Level 3 Award in Assessing Vocationally Related Achievement - if you assess learner's knowledge and skills in the workplace or workshop envrionment
Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement - if you assess both occupational competence in the workplace and learner's knowledge and skills in the workplace or workshop environment.
We always recommend speaking to us so we can ensure you start on the right pathway for you. Call us on 029 21679037 if you're unsure.
First step on the ladder to becoming a qualified assessor
Interactive online workshops and one to one support to complete assignments
Course delivery, mentoring & support with an experienced assessor
If you don't currently have learners, you would complete the Level 3 Award in Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment. You would attend the 4 workshops and complete assignments only.
Check in your workplace that you can be added as a Trainee Assessor with the Awarding Organisation. You will need to have an induction into their procedures for assessment. Ideally, you will need someone within your organisation who can countersign your work - double check that you are completing paperwork correctly, making the correct decisions, giving developmental feedback.
For the knowledge unit only, this can take 8 weeks.
For the practical unit, We assign you 4 meetings with your assessor. It is up to you how you use these meetings - to check work, for mentoring and advice, the observation, feedback on submitted work. We are flexible and work to your timescales.
