Why We Deliver the Award in Education and Training Face-to-Face

At Panda Education and Training, we believe that the way a teaching qualification is delivered is an important part of the learning experience.

The Award in Education and Training is an introductory qualification for people who are developing their skills and confidence as teachers, tutors and trainers. For this reason, we make a deliberate decision to deliver the qualification face-to-face.

We want our learners to experience effective teaching and learning rather than simply learn about it. Throughout the course, our trainers model the approaches that we want participants to develop in their own practice, including active learning, effective questioning, inclusive practice, differentiation, feedback and the development of positive learner relationships.

Face-to-face delivery also provides learners with opportunities to practise these skills in a supportive environment.

Participants can contribute to discussions, work collaboratively, try out teaching techniques, receive immediate feedback and develop their confidence in communicating with others. These experiences are particularly valuable for people who are new to teaching and may initially lack confidence in their ability to stand in front of a group and facilitate learning.

Being together in the same learning environment also enables our trainers to respond more effectively to individual learners. We can identify when someone needs additional support, clarification or challenge and adapt our teaching accordingly. We believe that building positive relationships with learners is fundamental to effective teaching, and face-to-face learning provides particularly rich opportunities for this.

This does not mean that we believe online learning is inappropriate. Panda uses digital and online approaches extensively where they provide genuine benefits to learners.

However, we believe that the most appropriate delivery method should be determined by the purpose and nature of the learning, rather than by convenience alone.

For the Award in Education and Training, we believe that experiencing high-quality teaching, practising teaching skills and developing confidence through interaction with others are fundamental to the learning experience.

Delivering the qualification face-to-face therefore reflects our commitment to developing confident, reflective and learner-focused practitioners rather than simply helping people achieve a qualification.

For us, the AET is not just about learning how to teach; it is about experiencing what good teaching feels like.
